A Brief History
Founded 40 years ago in 1986, in Bridgwater, Somerset, Berry & Escott began life as Berry Engineering, a small but ambitious precision engineering business with a focus on quality craftsmanship and technical expertise.
In 2003, Directors Lee Berry (ONC/HNC) and Chris Escott (EngTech MIMechE) joined forces to expand the company’s capabilities and set a new direction. Their shared vision and complementary skills laid the foundations for the modern business — now recognised as one of the UK’s leading precision engineering firms, known for delivering exceptional results and exceeding client expectations.
Over the years, the company has grown significantly, supported by substantial offices, dedicated production facilities, and a specialist workshop equipped with advanced machinery. A team of over 65 skilled engineers and support staff, along with a fleet of task-specific vehicles, allows Berry & Escott to provide responsive, high-quality engineering solutions across a diverse range of sectors.

Directors
Lee Berry
DirectorLee Berry is Director at Berry & Escott, overseeing engineering, finance, operations and HR. With 34 years of industry experience, HNC in design and manufacturing, he brings a practical, long-term perspective to building sustainable engineering solutions. Working alongside his fellow Director, Lee is committed to developing strong teams, improving systems and helping shape a resilient, forward-thinking business that consistently delivers for its clients.
Chris Escott
DirectorChris Escott turns ideas into robust, working engineering solutions, blending meticulous detail
with a practical, get-it-done mindset. With 20+ years across fabrication, machining, design and
customer relationships, he brings energy, optimism and high standards to every project.
Expertise: Design to manufacture, fabrication, machining, technical sales support, customer
problem-solving, quality and continuous improvement.
Qualifications: IMechE EngTech; GCSEs/O Levels.

Business Development ConsultantStuart Spinney is a highly experienced engineering professional with 45 years in the industry. Beginning as an apprentice and earning an HNC in Engineering, he has held senior roles including General Manager and Director across oil and gas, wastewater, and utilities sectors. He is currently Business Development Manager at Berry & Escott Ltd, supporting growth in water and nuclear markets."
Dawn Hobbs
Compliance ManagerDawn brings extensive experience in quality, health, safety, and environmental management, covering many sectors. Her work with BRCGS standards, the globally recognised benchmark for product safety and quality, reflects her expertise in managing robust compliance systems. She also brings in-depth knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001, is NEBOSH qualified, and has a strong track record in both conducting internal audits and leading external audit preparations.
Tim Parker
Engineering ManagerChartered-track Engineering Manager with 30+ years’ experience in mechanical design, coded welding, ISO compliance and nuclear-sector project delivery, Engineering Manager with over 30 years’ experience in mechanical design, manufacture and compliance across nuclear, oil and gas, utilities and automotive sectors. Specialised in structural calculations, ISO-certified systems and complex project delivery, combining hands-on technical expertise with steady leadership and team development.
Lisa Young
HR ManagerExperienced HR manager with expertise in employee relations, performance management, recruitment, and organisational development. CIPD Level 5 and AAT qualified. MHFA England – Mental Health First Aider
Lisa Young is an experienced Finance and HR Manager with over 24 years at Berry & Escott Ltd, progressing from Office Junior to the Business Management Team. AAT qualified and CIPD Level 5 certified, she specialises in financial management, payroll, HR leadership, and organisational development, supporting directors to drive business performance, compliance, and workforce growth.
Scott White
Sales ManagerSales Manager at Berry & Escott Engineering, with extensive global experience across marine, defence, oil & gas, and automotive sectors. A former Military Engineering professional, he combines hands-on technical expertise with a collaborative leadership style, driving innovative engineering solutions. Utilising 25+yrs of engineering, commercial and contractual experience to build solid commercial relationships and supporting customers in all sectors.
Chris Bennie
Operations ManagerChris has been with Berry and Escott Engineering for 27 years, starting his career as an apprentice and progressing into the role of Operations Manager. His hands-on experience, combined with a Business Management qualification and NEBOSH General Certificate, gives him a strong understanding of both the operational and safety aspects of the business. He is passionate about supporting our teams, maintaining high standards, and helping drive the company’s continued success.
Jake Williams
Senior Project ManagerRising through the ranks at Berry & Escott since 2014, Jake progressed from shop-floor engineering into senior project leadership. Grounded in practical delivery and technical detail, he takes a direct, hands-on, and decisive approach to leading high-volume structural steel and pipework contracts, while overseeing the project team and portfolio across utilities and associated industrial sectors.
Matt Lee
Senior Project ManagerWith five years’ hands-on experience as a CNC Miller, Matt built his expertise in precision manufacturing and engineering accuracy before moving into Project Management. For the past six and a half years, he has led projects within the Nuclear Generation and Defence sectors, applying practical workshop knowledge to deliver technically demanding programmes safely, efficiently and to exacting standards.
Tom Frome
Workshop ManagerTom has been part of the welding and fabrication industry since completing his advanced apprenticeship in 2010. In 2024, he had the opportunity to complete a management and leadership course, which has helped him develop his approach to leading teams and improving workshop performance. He takes pride in supporting his team and ensuring projects are delivered to the high standards that Berry & Escott Engineering is known for.

Our Factory Production Control System gives complete visibility across manufacturing, supported by real-time data collection for accurate project tracking and delivery management. Integrated Seiki Scheduling Software optimises planning and capacity, while our SolidWorks engineers handle 2D and 3D models across all major file types.
Environment
We are committed to reducing environmental impact and have achieved ISO 14001 certification in 2013. Since then, we’ve focused on minimising waste, improving efficiency, and lowering energy consumption across all operations. We’re proud to support environmental agencies and actively choose recycled and low-carbon materials wherever possible.
Our state-of-the-art compressor system reuses hot air to heat our workshops in winter, while energy-efficient lighting and natural skylights reduce power usage year-round. By reusing almost all incoming packaging and significantly cutting waste to landfill, Berry & Escott has been recognised with a Commercial Environmental Award, highlighting our ongoing commitment to sustainable engineering practices.
Apprenticeships
Apprentices have always been part of how Berry & Escott works. We bring people in early, train them to our standards, and give them the skills to build a long-term career in engineering.
For those starting out, it's a genuine route into a skilled trade, working on real projects across demanding sectors including nuclear, defence, and Utilities.
